Our Cassia Essential Oil is obtained by steam distillation of the bark of the plant. Cassia is a tropical evergreen tree with a thin trunk. It has leathery leaves and many yellow flowers. It is normally kept short like a shrub for cultivation purposes. It is native to South East China.
The Ancient Legacy of Cassia
You’ll find cassia’s rich history stretching back thousands of years. Ancient Egyptian embalmers prized this aromatic bark for its preservative properties, while Chinese herbalists have treasured it since the days of the Han Dynasty. Today’s aromatherapists often call it “cinnamon’s bolder cousin” thanks to its intensely spicy character. You’ll notice its warming properties are particularly potent – a little goes an incredibly long way.
While cinnamon might grab more spotlight in the spice world, cassia oil packs a powerful aromatic punch that sets it apart. Its robust scent can fill a room within minutes when diffused. Unlike its gentle relatives in the essential oil family, cassia demands respect with its formidable strength. That’s why we carefully source ours from sustainable harvests in China’s Guangxi region, where traditional cultivation methods ensure the highest quality bark for distillation.
Cassia Essential Oil is spicy and warm. It is similar to Cinnamon.
Cassia has been used as a culinary spice for many centuries. Today it is often used as a cheaper alternative for cinnamon. In modern products and foods it can be used as a household spice, a flavouring in processed foods, a mouthwash ingredient and a spicy scent for home fragrance sprays.
